My two youngest children were to be in a movie take this morning that was being shot 10 minutes out of town and we were told to be there by 6am, NO LATER!
I got up at 5:15am and had a shower before waking the kids up. But i was in there too long and i woke the kids up at 5:45 and we ran around in a mad hurry! We got in the car at 5:50, reversed out of the car port and as soon as we did, the windscreen iced up [it's winter here]. I put the heater on and the demister thingy for the windscreen but it wasn't making any differance. I squirted the windscreen with the little water squirters on the windscreen but that just made it worse!
About 300 metres up the road i pulled over. I couldn't drive peeking through holes in the ice and the demister thingy had only cleared the bottom of the windscreen by about an inch. I said to the kids, "I'm sorry, i can't drive like this, i just can't."
Then as we sat there looking at the windsreen, in a matter of 3 seconds it cleared completely. I don't know where the ice went, it just....went.
We sat there quiet for a few seconds and i said to the kids," How could anyone see that and not believe in God?!?" Or even not believe that he is there?
One of the kids asked if i had prayed to God and asked him to do that and i said i hadn't. I said it must be one of those nice little things he does for us :o)
In Bible times God did BIG things...MASSIVE things! And those stories are all through the bible.People wonder why he doesn't do huge miracles these days, But I really think [and this is strictly personal opinion!] that he doesn't need to do things "hollywood" style now as he proved his love and exsistance to us through the life and death of Jesus. Before Jesus, people didn't have a one-on-one relationship with God. It was like a factory relationship. There are the people who work the floor [the "little" average people], the managers [the priests etc] and the owner/overseer [God] and miracles seemed to be performed as such. But now, through his death, if we believe Jesus is who he says he is, in our hearts, we don't "need" those huge miracles. Because now he works on a one-on-one basis and the miracles are mostly one-on-one.
But Jesus wants control over ALL of our life, not just the parts WE want to give him. He doesn't just want us to lift our families, finances and jobs up to him...he wants it all. And he will quite happily show us his love in little ways every day, only for us to overlook them because we are waiting for that hollywood miracle. God knows in my heart that i have a drinking problem and i wish i'd wake up one day only to find he'd taken the desire to drink out of my life. But apparently he would rather i slog it out day by day. Apparently he might think that will help me become the disiple he wants me to be.
He also knew that 4 of his little people needed him on the side of a frosty road. He knew we knew that we could do nothing to fix to fix the problem. So in HIS wisdom, even though none of us had given the situation to him yet, it was like he was saying, "I love you and i want you to be at this occasion that is important to you all, so because i can, i will fix it for you."
And that my friend, is hollywood enough for me! :o)
